An announcement from Providence Health & Services has brought some much-welcomed news to job officials in Spokane, Washington. The company recently said it was getting ready to move its headquarters to the city, and would be looking to hire additional workers over the next two months.
The announcement is also additional good news for people who have attended medical coding and billing school, as the company said the new positions would range from clerks to executives and include insurance billing, collections, patient scheduling and medical record management.
Providence Health is one of the largest healthcare organizations in the West, operating a number of Catholic hospitals, laboratory services and clinics in Washington, as well as in Oregon, California, Alaska and Montana.
Rich Hadley, chief executive of Greater Spokane Incorporated, said the move by Providence is the largest jobs creator by a single employer in the city's recent history. He said the operation is also expected to generate $30 million to the local economy.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for medical records and health information technicians are expected to grow by 20 percent through the end of the decade.
