Those currently enrolled in a culinary arts training program might be inspired by a culinary school graduate who has made his way to the final round of the hit show, Top Chef.
Although he placed third, Kevin Gillespie isn”t done in the kitchen yet. The Baltimore Sun reports that Gillespie was recently announced among the Bocuse d”Or semi-finalists. The competition pits the semi-finalists against each other for a chance to be the U.S. representative in the finalist competition in Lyon, France, in 2011.
Gillespie worked at a restaurant in the Atlanta Ritz-Carlton hotel upon graduation from his culinary arts program, and then made his way to two other sous chef positions. He is currently a part owner and the executive chef of the Woodfire Grill in Atlanta.
Gillespie”s story can give hope to all of those who dream of one day being nationally recognized for their craft. A culinary arts program could be a great way to start off a dream career like the one that Gillespie has.
Those who are interested in a career in food may be interested to know that the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the amount of culinary positions available will increase by 11 percent by 2016.
