Hair Cuttery salons in Eastern Shore Pennsylvania are holding a coat drive for local organizatons including the Salvation Army and Cradles to Crayons.Hair Cuttery salons along Pennsylvania's Eastern Shore are proving that students who go to hair design schools don't just have the ability to make people look good, they also can do something good for their community. The salons are pitching in to help collect gently used winter items for Krausey's Koats to distribute cold-weather gear for those in need this winter.

Donations of coats, scarves, hats and mittens are now being accepted at any Hair Cuttery location on the Eastern Shore until January 2.

Dennis Ratner, founder and chief executive officer of Hair Cuttery, said he is hoping to exceed last year's collections.

"This year, with the expansion of the program into other regions of the country, we hope to collect even more cold-weather clothing for those in need," Ratner noted. "That would certainly make it a merrier holiday for all of us."

Last season's campaign collected 6,500 coats which were distributed to local missions, homeless shelters and nonprofit organizations including Cradles to Crayons, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Salvation Army.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment opportunities for hairdressers, hairstylists and cosmetologists are expected to grow by 20 percent through the end of the decade.
